We see the relationship develop between Yvan and Elloren with the first two reads and it was a fantastical journey. How do you end the second book with her being stalwart in being ready to save the world but then beginning of third book comes, and we’re back at square one with her uselessness? She always shocked, apologetic, or feeling sorry for herself but can never seem to find a way to better herself or her situation. Elloren is just as weak minded as previous reads.
With all the time that has passed, you’d think by the third book we’d see a bit more development in her character.

I was here for her in learning how to have faith in herself, develop a backbone, navigate her way through her feelings regarding romance, racism, so on and so forth. For the first two books, which are each 600+ page reads, I supported Elloren.

This series which I have loved with all my heart since the first book has, for the first time, disappointed me tremendously. Needless to say, it was a frustrating and disappointing read.Īm I still reading The Black Witch Chronicles? Because I could swear this book in no way seems connected to the previous two books and I say this because I really wish it was the case. Like other reviewers I'm not sure I'll purchase any further installments. It's an easy way to sell more books, but a disappointment to fans. Maas, where readers are left hanging and disappointed they don't know the outcome of their favorite characters. Instead, it's more like A COURT OF THORN OF ROSES, by Sarah J. I was hoping it would be like THE WINTERNIGHT TRILOGY, by Katherine Arden, that has a beautiful and satisfying ending. She goes through A LOT and with some new allies, but nothing kicks in until the very end, where you're left thinking, "Seriously? That's it?" It's a real let down to the readership to have to wait almost two years to find out the rest of the story, with no guarantee that readers won't have to wait another few years to find out the end. All her inner strength seems to have faded away and been replaced with crippling fear. Elloren is a lead character that spends much of the time doubting herself and her strength - completely opposite of how she acted in the previous book. There is a lot of new information and characters being introduced and when I got to 60% I knew that this book would not tie up the series. And to forge onward through the most devastating loss yet.Ĭritics are raving about Laurie.UGH!
